About the Playwright

 

Fred Rohan-Vargas, Founder and Executive Producer of Mixing It Up Productions LLC, is the author of several plays and musicals that have been produced throughout the country and abroad. He holds an MFA in dramatic writing from New York University. Two of his plays have been published by The Riant Theatre (Anything But Black) and JAC Publishing and Promotions (Crystal). He has received three nominations for his play Tide Beyond the Rift at the Midtown International Theatre Festival (2014). His play Crystal was produced in Estonia in 2012 Bucharest, Romania, in 2014 and 2022. As a producer, Fred has had his children’s musical, Yaki Yim Bamboo the Musical, run at the 13th Street Repertory Theatre. It received four stars from Show-Score in 2016. He co-produced the Off-Broadway musical Money Talks at the Ken Davenport Theatre in July 2017 and invested with Van Dean in the Broadway show, The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical at the Longacre Theatre in 2019.

 

As a songwriter, Fred has received several Honorable Mentions from The John Lennon Songwriting Contest, The Great American Song Contest, Billboard World Song Contest, Unisong International Songwriting Contest, and Song of the Year Contest. His music is played throughout Southeast Asia. He has served on the panels of Broadway Bound Theatre Festival, the Queens Council on the Arts’ theatre/dance grants, the Daytime Emmy Awards, and the Huntington Arts Council Grant Awards for Artists.

 

Fred serves on the advisory board of Ripple Effect Artists, Inc. He is an active member of BMI Engel Lehman Musical Theatre Workshop, Off-Broadway Alliance, and The Dramatists Guild.
